Ordering a supplier’s product
Bestsellers. From our own stock: 7–10 days instead of 30–40.
An online store of accessories for portable electronics from Chelyabinsk switched to selling suppliers’ goods across Russia. While we worked with it, the catalog grew to over a thousand items and revenue by 64%.

The store started as an idea test: 45 products from one brand, delivery by its own courier within the city, cash on delivery. In that form the idea didn’t work, and the store moved to dropshipping. From October 2012 to January 2015 we ran its development.
The first version of the store was built by another contractor. The owner had plenty of ideas for growth. We collected them into a Jira backlog, prioritized them together with him and broke large ideas into tasks. We worked in two-week sprints: every two weeks we met, discussed what was done and what we would take next, proposed our own ideas and reprioritized.
First we made it possible to buy outside Chelyabinsk. We added card payments, Yandex.Money, QIWI and RBK Money, a card terminal for the courier, delivery by Russian Post and QIWI Post, and order tracking on the website. Cart and checkout were merged into one step, and purchases started earning bonus points.

In dropshipping, the store finds a supplier, lists its products, takes payment and passes the order to the supplier, who packs and ships it. Bestsellers were bought in small batches for our own stock, which cut their delivery time from 30–40 days to 7–10. In this model it matters to list suppliers’ products on the website quickly, and we automated that routine.
Russian suppliers kept their products in 1C: Trade Management. For them we built catalog import and export via Excel: the supplier exports its product list, the store uploads the file and adds the attributes. With some suppliers we set up direct exchange with their 1C, and the catalog with prices and stock updated itself. Foreign suppliers were connected via API and XML. The markup on products was also calculated automatically.
